hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)

hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) md top10mdhCG or human chorionic gonadotropic is a hormone produced by an embryo (fertilized egg) after it is implanted inside of you. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is the hormone that is detected when you take a pregnancy test. Sometimes cancerous tumors can produce hCG, so elevated levels that are measured when you are not pregnant can lead to a cancer diagnosis. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a type of protein.

The function of hCG is to maintain what is known as your “corpus luteum” during your pregnancy. Corpus luteum (Latin for “yellow body”) is a temporary endocrine structure in your ovaries involved in producing high levels of progesterone. Your corpus luteum will secrete large amounts of progesterone during your first trimester of pregnancy. Progesterone enriches your uterus with a thick lining of blood vessels and capillaries so that your uterus can sustain the growing fetus inside of you. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) can repel your immune cells and protect your fetus. hCG can be used clinically to induce ovulation in your ovaries or testosterone production in the male testes.  It is such an abundant biological source in pregnant women that some organizations collect urine from expectant mothers. From the urine, hCG is extracted for use in fertility treatments.

Blood or urine tests measure levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). These can be pregnancy tests.

High levels of hCG (hCG-positive) can indicate the different conditions. The first one is germ cell tumors.  These tumors can be cancerous or non-cancerous. Germ cells usually occur inside the gonads (ovaries in women or testes in men). The tumors affecting the germ cells originate outside your gonads may be birth defects that result from errors during your development as an embryo. Despite their name, germ cell tumors can occur both within and outside your ovaries or testis. Germ cell tumors can happen inside your head, mouth, neck, mediastinum, pelvis, ovary, and testis. In females germ cell tumors account for 30% of ovarian tumors. The treatment of germ cell tumors is usually staging surgery, and depending on if you are interested in having children still, a hysterectomy or salpingoophorectomy. If you have germ cell cancer, you will most likely be treated with combination chemotherapy for at least three cycles. The most common regimen is called PEB or BEP and consists of taking bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin.

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, this is a rare group of pregnancy-related tumors. These rare tumors appear when cells in your womb start to proliferate uncontrollably. The cell that forms these tumors are known as trophoblasts, and they come from the tissue that forms your placenta during your pregnancy. You are most likely of child-bearing age if you get this disease, but it also rarely occurs in postmenopausal women. If you have this type of disease, you will need to evacuate your pregnancy. Having a hysterectomy is also an alternative, but only if you aren’t going to want any further pregnancy. Chemotherapy will also be included in your treatment, especially if your cancer has spread to places that are difficult to operate on, like your brain.

The embryo inside of you will form and develop. Pregnancy begins with your egg cell becoming fertilized by the sperm cell of your partner. Once your egg is fertilized, it becomes a single diploid cell. This type of cell is referred to as a “zygote.” The zygote will grow by dividing. The parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells.  This process, known as embryogenesis, happens in both the animal and plant world.

hCD & Weight LosshCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) md top10md

HCD has been proposed as a support for a ultra-low-calorie weight-loss diet that consists of less than 500 calories per day. Some studies have indicated that some people benefit from regular injections of HCG.  There has been controversy about how much HCG helps to lose weight and whether any over-the-counter drug would help for losing weight. Unapproved hCG products have been pulled from the market, despite the fact that some famous physicians (British endocrinologist Albert T. W. Simeons) claim that regular, low-dose injections of hCG have helped patients lose fat rather than lean muscle tissue. He reasoned that hCG must program your hypothalamus to do this.
